Who is there for you when you need someone? What attributes draw you to him or her? To pay tribute to the important figures in their lives, veteran Art Therapist, Kay DeWaide, works with Bubbler Teens to construct intention figures through a creative and meditative process that all starts by writing down a few words on a piece of paper that represent this person and then crumpling that paper up into a ball that is used to create the head of the Intention Figure.
Love & Caring
I put "love and caring" inside of mine and this is supposed to be my little sister. I put a cape because she a little super hero to me. And I put little boots cause she’s always trying to be like me and follow my footsteps. And, um, I put this little angel thing on her head because sometimes she’s an angel and the horns because then sometimes she’s a little devil.
Rasta
I had a dream one time in my cell. It was like….you were in it and everyone else was in it. Don’t you know how you got the skylight. And you were raised up on the latter and then I climbed up it and for some reason a key popped in my hand and I unlocked it. And for some reason there was a pool up there. And then I went inside the pool and looked down and everybody was fighting for some reason. And I just looked down just minding my business. And basically what I’m feeling right now is "Rasta". Because like, his powers come from his dreads and he got the key to unlock certain stuff on inside and this can be used as a weapon. And he got enchantment pieces.
Joyful
My word was “Joyful”. And I put a smile on him because he’s happy. And you know, I’m happy doing a lot of stuff so I put the little trumpet like I do, and this bird is wisdom. This is like my best friend, because she’s like me, so you know, we act alike.
Love
I was about to make it by my mom, but somewhere in between I just decided to make it about my little sister. The name inside of it is "Love", you know, because I love my little sister and she loves me. She looks up to me. I put a heart on her skirt because most of her clothes are skirts. And I gave her some little bling chains and some skirt jewelry, because, to make her look nice.
Darth Vader
I made this figure that has a paper ball inside that says Darth Vader, and I made it about my brother because has a deep voice and he likes to dress up as Dark Vader. He has this cape at home and he has these katana swords and he be going (sword fighting actions).
Friendly and Kind
This is my friend he’s Native American, and so I made a picture of him. I wrote friendly and kind.
Fancy Sister
Its about my sister… Love, attitude, and stuff like that... My sister’s fancy, like she likes to dress up and stuff, but she don’t got blond hair. She got a couple kids, but I just did one of her babies. And her favorite color is purple
Super Fresh
He’s like super fresh. He got his chain, his earrings, his mouth piece... He’s got his little Wisconsin thing in the head or whatever. Here’s the gym shoes he’s got on.
